Sites to see when touring Cyberspace!

  • Amalgamated Binaries -- The company that is defined by their motto, Software That Promises Nothing - And Delivers! Amalgamated Binaries is home to strange visitors from another planet, who came to Earth with powers far beyond that of mortal men. Don't ask, just go visit this great site, home to the creators of Tiny Elvis and the Klingon Klock, where the eternal question, "what is the average life expectancy of the Asian mongoose?" is not only asked, but answered.

  • Intelligamer -- Okay, okay, so what does gaming have to do with Office or Windows computing? Nothing, but all work and no play makes cyber-Jack or Jill a bit on the dull side. So if you want to know which recreational software to invest your hard earned samolians in, Intelligamer is the first, last, and best line of information.

  • Lockergnome -- Chris Pirillo's daily newsletter on the latest and greatest shareware, freeware, and commercialware available on the Internet. Chris ferrets out the utilities, programs, fonts, themes, and tips to keep you hip deep in cool stuff.

  • Microbus Polyglot -- Microbus Polyglot helps you translate Microsoft Access Forms and Reports. Translation can be "100% Human" or "Machine Assisted" using a Free Internet Translation Service. Users claim that they haven't seen anything that works this easily or this well for translation... This is Class "A" Stuff!

  • Microsoft Developer Network -- If you need to know anything about Microsoft programming tools, techniques, or issues, then take a swim in the more than 1.5 gigabytes of stuff available on the MSDN CDs. Don't overlook the numerous utilities (many unsupported) on these must-have CDs.

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer -- If you're using Internet Explorer you'll want to make sure you have the latest and greatest version. This is a link directly to the Microsoft page where you can download IE and find out the latest about add-ons and current developments on this popular browser.

  • Microsoft Office Data Exchange -- Helen Feddema's site. This is a great resource for Office developers trying to get Office applications to pass data back and forth.

  • Microsoft Knowledge Base -- Ever wonder what the Microsoft phone support rep is doing when you call for help and they put you on hold? They're looking in the Knowledge Base! Cut out the middleman and look for yourself. Enter your keywords and get the official scoop, white papers, and bug reports.

  • Microsoft Support On-Line -- Microsoft has abandoned their support forums on CompuServe and support is now available on their web page and via their new newsgroups. (See Woody's Underground Office newsletter Volume 1 Issue 7 for an in-depth look at Microsoft's support shift and how to best deal with accessing newsgroups on the Internet.)

  • Microsoft TechNet -- Interestingly, TechNet stands for "Technical Information Network" so for the first time ever, something from Redmond isn't a TLA (three letter acronym). Perhaps that's because TIN sounds too much like a low grade commodity. But rest assured, this invaluable subscription will pay for itself the first time you do a search. The CDs contain thousands of technical articles and white papers on Microsoft products plus the Microsoft Knowledge Base and Software Library, along with current drivers and patches.

  • The Naked PC Newsletter -- The Naked PC newsletter! "What You Need to Know about All Things PC" -- A companion to the Woody's Office Watch newsletter, TNPC picks up where WOW leaves off, with articles, tips, recommendations, and commentary on hardware, the Internet, software, and more.

  • OfficeCert.com -- OfficeCert.com is the Web resource for people preparing to take their Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) exams. You'll find chat forums, exam and study help, book reviews, how-to articles, Microsoft Office tips, fun and useful files for download, and news about the certification program. Their motto: Ace that exam!

  • PowWow Personal Communicator -- One of the best and most stable of the Internet voice communications packages available and it's FREE! Conference up to seven people in text chat or voice mode, tour Web sites as a group, and transfer files all over the Internet. (See Dan Butler's discussion of PowWow in Woody's Underground Office, Personal Wide-area Nets on the Internet - Volume 1 Issue 5, May 1996.)

  • Rob Rosenberger's Computer Virus Myths -- Want unadulterated reporting on what's a real virus/malware threat and what's so much hype and fear-mongering? Tired of the outrageous claims of mainstream talking heads who want to make you think that your software is unsafe and that only they really know what's going on (when they don't)? Then Rob Rosenberger's Computer Virus Myths site is the site for you. Get The Truth from someone who actually knows what he's talking about. Rob routinely and incisively separates the actual virus dangers from the chaff and marketing hype. You should bookmark this site NOW.

  • Spreadsheets in Education -- See how spreadsheets are used in Mathematics, Statistics, and Science teaching. You'll find Projects, examples, literature, and links to other interesting spreadsheet related sites.

  • Windows Annoyances -- Are you annoyed? Check out David Karp's Annoyances.org web site. David is the author of the best selling Windows 97 Annoyances (O'Reilly & Associates). This site has links to various books in the Annoyances Series and information on upcoming books.

  • Woody's Office Power Pack Add-On -- This is the most popular add-on to Word for Windows ever! On the WOPR page you can download this amazing collection of utilities as well as access a wealth of information on Word, Microsoft, the latest virus threats, and more. Check it out!

  • Woody's Office Watch -- Woody's Office Watch (WOW), a free email bulletin for the Office user. WOW, along with the Office Annoyances update page, keeps you on top of the latest Office news and rumors, inside gossip, musings, and vituperations. Add the usual mix of tips, tricks, answers to your burning questions, bugs and workarounds, update notices, and tutorials on features you probably never knew existed.
