PRIME for Excel XP/2002 Utility Descriptions
PRIME for Excel XP/2002 is the latest collection of utilities for Microsoft Excel XP/2002 (part of Microsoft Office) and found on our PRIME for Office Utilities CD.
From the authors of Excel 97 Annoyances (O'Reilly), Office 97 Annoyances (O'Reilly) and The Underground Guide to Excel (Addison Wesley) you'll find these utilities increase your productivity working with Excel for Windows.
PRIME Tips -- we include a large collection of tips intended to help you learn about the utility features at your own pace.
Address Mapper -- looks in the current document for a street address, then maps that address in your Web browser using tools provided by Expedia Maps.
Cell Color Popup -- When you click the Cell Color Popup button it displays a list of 17 light colors, along with their color names for easy identification (especially if you're color blind), that you can use to set the selected cell's or range's color shade (also known as a cell's "fill" color).
Clear History Lists -- There are 17 built-in Excel dialogs that contain most recently used (MRU) file history lists, plus the MRU File List located on Excel's File Menu. This utility searches out the built-in Excel dialogs that contain file history lists and lets you clear those history lists with a single click. It does the same for the MRU File List on Excel's File menu. The utility works from a popup menu, and it only lists the dialogs that currently have active file history lists. Once you clear a list, it is removed from the popup until it becomes active again. There's even a Reset All MRU Lists button for the truly paranoid.
Command Bar Manager -- Find, analyze, and modify the controls (buttons) on any Excel command bar (be it a toolbar, menu bar, or popup/shortcut menu). Command Bar Manager displays *all* command bars along with each command bar's controls and their attributes; can change these control properties: Caption, DescriptionText, Macro (OnAction), TooltipText, FaceID, Style, and BeginGroup; alphabetically sorts the command bars list (natively Excel doesn't do this); displays each command bar's type dynamically (Excel doesn't); handles multiple command bars with the same name; edit, copy, paste, and reset button images; and log the statistics for all command bars and all first-level controls on each command bar to a new Excel worksheet.
Image Editor -- Our highly advanced Image Editor tool provided with PRIME Command Bar Manager is full of features not available in Office's built-in button editor. Our editor's unique features are: Fill with Color Tool, Pick Color Tool, Flip Colors, Undo and Redo (5 levels each), Rotate Center, Rotate Vertical, Rotate Horizontal, and More Colors (presents a 256-color palette or allows you to define any custom color you desire).
File Delete -- This utility allows you to safely delete (to the Recycle Bin) the current document, permanently delete it (is deleted with no retention in the Recycle Bin), empty the Recycle Bin, or explore the Recycle Bin right from the PRIME Toolbar.
Folder Now -- Ever wanted to see all the files that reside in the same folder as the current opened workbook is in? Folder Now provides this capability in two ways, either you can explore the current document's folder inside a new instance of Windows Explorer, or you can fire up a File Open dialog already pointing to the current Office document's path. You'll be amazed how convenient and what a serious time-saver this is.
Name Manager -- provides a list of all names in the current workbook, including hidden names, and displays statistics for those names. Name Manager also allows you to go to a range name's location, paste a list of
all names and their statistics into a worksheet, toggle names between
visible and hidden, and delete names.
Range Name Popup -- When you click on the Range Name Popup button it displays an alphabetical list of all workbook range names, you select the one of interest, and the selection moves there.
Row Spacer -- Allows you to increase or decrease a single row's (or multiple rows') height by the provided number of points. The default values that can be selected are from -16 to -1 and from 1 to 16; the initial default is 6. If you select a specific value, it is remembered by Row Spacer as the new default value.
Shortcut Now -- Create a Shortcut for the current document in any available location. This tool invokes the same Create Shortcut wizard you see when you right-click on your Windows desktop then choose New, Shortcut.
Task Pane Manager -- Allows you to control and customize numerous aspects of the Task Pane's behavior from one centralized menu list.
Window Manager -- Select for closing one, several, or all open Excel windows (multi-select); and create a new window, split, and arrange windows.
PRIME WorkBar -- Try PRIME Workbar and you'll be hooked -- it's that good. This utility gives you a one-click listing of your key working documents right on your menu bar. You can organize this list, automatically sort files as you add them (or not, at your preference), display the list as a menu or a toolbar, and has file actions of Open, Open as Read-Only, Print, Quick View, Explore File, Explore Folder, and Create Shortcut. WorkBar supports a wide variety of file formats, and will launch a file's parent application for you automatically. So you're not limited to only Excel documents on your Excel WorkBar. For example, your Excel WorkBar could include a Mary1.doc Word document entry. The file types supported are: Access, Binder, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and shortcuts.
Zoomer -- Zoom using 3-D slider and 10 custom settings that remember your last 5 zooms and 5 pre-set zooms.
Quick Clicks -- A set of utilities that provide single-click access to Excel's most frequently asked-for functions. All PRIME Quick Clicks utilities reside on the "PRIME Quick Clicks" toolbar.
Add or Remove Buttons from a PRIME Toolbar -- This tool lists all of the currently installed PRIME for Word tools (non-Quick Click tools) in a popup menu. By selecting one, you can remove its button from the toolbar, either the PRIME for Word or the PRIME Quick Clicks toolbar.
- PRIME Add/Remove Office Features - starts the Microsoft Office XP Setup program in maintenance mode. It displays the Maintenance Mode Options panel with the "Add or Remove Features - Change which features are installed or remove specific features" radio button selected. The other radio buttons on this panel are "Repair Office..." and "Uninstall Office..."
- PRIME Delete All Comments - This Quick Click deletes all comments in the current workbook, but always prompts you before proceeding with their deletion. If only one cell is selected, the utility will delete all of the comments in the workbook. If a range of cells is selected, the utility will delete all of the comments in the range, but none of the comments outside of that range.
- PRIME Delete Unused Worksheets - deletes all unused worksheets in the current workbook
- PRIME Edit Go To Special - triggers the difficult-to-get-to built-in Edit Go To Special dialog box presents an impressive array of tools for finding problems in spreadsheet models
- PRIME Explore Documents Folder - when you click this button you get a Windows Explorer instance open to whatever folder you have defined in Excel as your Documents folder (Tools / Options / File Locations / Documents)
- PRIME File New - single-click access to all your Excel workbook templates, unlike Excel's default New button on the Standard toolbar that forces you to accept the default workbook template
- PRIME File Properties - displays Excel's Document Properties dialog
- PRIME Formula Flipper - toggles your display between result view and formula view
- PRIME New Office Document - displays Office's "New Office Document" dialog from which you can create a wide variety of different new Office documents
- PRIME Notation Style Flipper - toggles your worksheet display between A1 and R1C1 notation style
- PRIME Open Office Document - displays Office's "Open Office Document" dialog in which you can browse to and open any type of Office document
- PRIME Print Selection - prints the current selection to the current printer
- PRIME Select Used Range - selects the range of cells defined by the upper left-most cell that isn't empty down to the lower right-most cell that isn't empty (the one you get to when you press Ctrl+End)
- PRIME Toggle Wrap Text - toggles the selected cell's or range's "wrap text" setting
- PRIME Visual Basic Editor - a one-click solution to firing up the Visual Basic Editor
- PRIME Window Arrange All - arranges all Excel child windows
- PRIME Window Arrange All Horizontal - arranges all Excel child windows horizontally
